Ademas, para AFE significa un efecto cono donde el unico perjudicado es el ferrocarril, al perder pasajeros y capacidad operativa a escala bestial. Un ferrocarril no puede tener como estacion terminal, un edificio pequeño, inutil y totalmente ineficiente. LOS USUARIOS EXIGIMOS QUE VUELVA A LA VIDA LA UNICA Y VERDADERA ESTACION CENTRAL. |
| Posted By: George Handley Posted On: Jul 2, 2005 Views: 1667 | Terminal Station For one who has visited Montevideo for the last 50 years, I sincerely trust that the authorities currently in charge will not only keep the old Artigas station in place but also invest heavily in order to bring back what it once stood for. I may be labeled as a traditional romantic fool but let us not forget the history that all of this covers. In South America - in general - we are prone to get rid of old structures, being promised that progress will up-date them. This type of progress is rarely kept. |

It is absolutely ridiculous to site rail termini further away from the town/city centre they serve. Here in the UK this has happened on many rural branch lines, with many attractive buildings swept away for car parks, retail development, etc and being replaced with spartan facilities further up the line, involving a longer, less covenient walk to access the station. It would be an act of corporate vandalism for Estacion Central to be demolished as it is a magnificent edifice. Instead, I urge everyone to lobby the appropriate authorities and demand that this station be fully restored and returned to use for the purpose it was originally built - TRAINS! |
